Design Statement
Under the current circumstance of rapid development of high technology, nowadays even everyone is affected by too many things like mobile phones, laptops television etc. Distances between people have been elongated subconsciously. This project is named "CONNECTION" aiming to shorten distances between people and re-establish a stronger connection between both people and people, and with the community as well.
To achieve this ideality, following approaches are applied to help reach the final outcome:
-The idea from mortise and tenon is about connecting two objects, so this will continue to be used for the unit typology.
-Co-housing strategy will be applied into some of the unit in order to establish a fine connection between occupants. Additionally, some detailed design strategies about flexibility will be well-used into units as well.
-Some external design features like sky bridges, decorative structure will be installed to connect the whole community physically and visually.
-The material choice of the building is mainly concrete, but will in various appearances so that the connection between each appearance will be perceived.
Through the whole semester, I was first deeply attracted by precedent Gartenhof about its materiality and unit layout and organisation, and how to intergrate the environment and the building harmoniously. Through to the second assignment and third, the idea "how to connect people and the environment" always keeps in my mind. During the design process, I always exploring and digging this idea into my work.
